Police arraign Evans today in Lagos

Nigeria’s billionaire kidnapper,Chukwudumeme Ohamadike aka Evans, will be arraigned today as the police have concluded investigations into his activities.The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the suspect would be arraigned at the Ikeja High Court today.
He said: “Evans would be arraigned in court tomorrow morning (today) at the Ikeja High Court.”Police detectives attached to the Inspector General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, arrested Evans on June 10 at his Magodo mansion in Lagos.
The suspect was said to be the the brain behind most of the high profile kidnap cases across the country. He was for many years on the police wanted list.Evans’ gang was said to have abducted a rich pharmacist, Mr. Donatus Dunu, and demanded a N500 million ransom from his family members. The family reportedly paid N150 million.But the pharmacist’s escape from his camp at Igando, a community on the outskirts of Lagos metropolis, signalled the fall of the self-styled Nigeria’s biggest kidnapper.
Confirming Evans’ boast, a senior police officer described him as “the most brilliant and notorious high profile kidnapper in the history of Nigeria”.Evans and his gang were reputed to have collected billions of Naira as ransom in the last seven years from victims.It was learnt that Evans will be arraigned before Justice Akeem Oshodi of Ikeja High Court 18.
Evans and 15 of his gang members will be facing 14 substantive cases (10 in Lagos and four in Edo State).Their cases involve 52 charges of multiple murders, armed robberies, kidnappings, unlawful possession of firearms, unlawful possession of ammunition, etc. The 14 cases were filed by the Force Legal Department and Lagos State Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before the Lagos State High Court, Federal High Court and Edo State High Court, Benin.Today’s case is one of the 14. Evans and five of his accomplices involved in Dunu’s abduction will be arraigned today.The remaining 13 cases have not been arraigned.
