Nigerian army begins Operation Crocodile Smile in southwest

- The second phase of the Nigerian army training tagged Operation Crocodile Smile has started in the southwest - The exercise was launched in Lagos and Ogun state on October 7 - The operation is expected to end on October 28 and public has been urged to support and cooperate with the troops The troops of 81 Division of the Nigerian army on October 7, launched its 2017 training exercise tagged Operation Crocodile Smile in Lagos and Ogun state. The southwest exercise is expected to last three weeks and end on October 28, 2017. The spokesman of the division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaolu Daudu, in a statement on Monday, said that the exercise will also avail troops the opportunity to sharpen combat skills in the conduct of land base as well as joint riverine operation. 31 suspected cases of monkeypox recorded in 7 states

- The monkeypox outbreak is reportedly spreading fast in Nigeria - The NCDC reported that the virus may have spread to no less than 7 states - Samples from the suspected cases have been sent to laboratory for verification The national coordinator of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, on Monday, October 9, announced that the monkeypox outbreak may have spread to 7 states in Nigeria. The Cable reports that Ihekweazu said suspected cases of the disease have been reported in 6 states after the initial discovery in Bayelsa on September 22. He listed the states likely to have been affected as: 1. Bayelsa 2. Rivers 3. Ekiti 4. Akwa Ibom 5. Lagos 6. Ogun 7. Nnamdi Kanu: Charly Boy Criticises Nigerian Govt

The Nigerian musician, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has condemned the deployment of soldiers to the hometown of controversial separatist leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Charly Boy, leader of the ‘OurMumuDonDo’ movement said the federal government should be more worried about safeguarding lives and properties than destroying it. He said this in a statement signed by him, Adeyanju Deji, leader of Concerned Nigerians and Adebayo Raphael, Publicity Secretary, OurMumuDonDo Movement. The statement further explained that the people of Abia State deserved better than unnecessary disturbances in the city. “The good people of Abia State deserve better than the undue panic under which they have been placed since the invasion which has completely restricted them from going about their daily activities freely like they used to.” The movement urged the federal government to promote peace and unity instead of raising tension brewing hatred for one another in the country. “Finally

IPOB: US, UK, AI call for caution, seek end to clash

In separate statements on Friday, they called on Nigerians to eschew violence and respect the rule of law. Also, the Amnesty International has called on the Federal Government to ensure that the military did not use “excessive force” in the region, saying it was already investigating allegations of human rights violation. The Nigerian Army had during the week deployed soldiers in the South-East under an operation code-named, ‘Operation Python Dance’, which seeks to curb violent crimes within the region.
